Whatever, I'm adding it to my "want" page a couple years later, because I do think I now have a vague interest in seeing it. Maybe.

This is something I discovered while browsing titles on Sonar's website (which unfortunately no longer exists). I have no recollection of having been aware of the miniseries when it first aired in 1999, but it seems unlikely that I wouldn't have been. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing it sometime, but it's not important. I'd much rather watch the 1963 movie with Elizabeth Taylor, maybe even earlier films, like the 1917 version with Theda Bara or the 1934 version with Claudette Colbert.

I'm sure I saw this when it first aired in 2001, but I don't remember it with any clarity. I think I probably didn't think too highly of it, but I'd still like to see it again sometime, just to write a review. Oh, and it was coproduced by Sci-Fi Channel, which I think may have aired it in addition to NBC... or maybe it was just NBC, I dunno. And as for the title... depending on where you look, some sites call it "The Lost Empire," some call it "The Monkey King," and some "The Lost Empire: The Legend of the Monkey King." I'm afraid I don't remember which it was actually called when it first aired. (It's not uncommon for titles to change on video from what they were on TV, and if it did air on two different networks, they might also have used different titles. I hate that kind of thing.)

This is, of course, based on the book by Herman Melville, which I've never read. I remember being aware of this when it first aired in 1998, and I know I had some interest in it, because it stars Patrick Stewart. But somehow, I didn't watch it. So... I should. Also, in 2011, the same company that made this made a different Moby Dick miniseries for Encore, which I haven't seen, but might have some interest in, because Gillian Anderson's in that one.

I couldn't have been aware of this when it first aired in 1977, as I was less than two years old. But I've been aware of it for a very long time, now, as it's one of the most iconic miniseries ever. It also spawned a couple of sequels, and it starred LeVar Burton, of whom I'm a fan from other things. So I'd like to see the whole franchise someday. Oh, and it's also related to the miniseries "Alex Haley's Queen" (top of this page). And in 2016, there was a remake of the original.
