Caution: spoilers.

This is an anime-inspired series that premiered on Adult Swim in 2023, but I didn't see it until a couple years later, on HBO Max. After I watched the first season, I wrote a review, but that has been lost. So I've had to re-write it as best I could before watching season 2.

Season one
In Smallville, Clark Kent finds one day that he has super powers. Years later, he moves to Metropolis. He and his best friend/roommage, Jimmy Olsen, begin working at the Daily Planet newspaper as interns. They are assigned to work with another intern named Lois Lane, and it seems obvious that Lois and Clark are attracted to each other at first sight, though it will be some time before they do anything about it. I should also mention that Jimmy has a social media platform called Flamebird, on which he talks about alien conspiracies and paranormal phenomena such as Bigfoot. Lois enlists Clark and Jimmy to help her investigate the theft of high-tech weapons, against the orders of their boss, Perry White. This leads to Lois and Jimmy witnessing an unknown superhero/metahuman try to stop the bad guys. Lois dubs him "Superman", and wants to get an interview with him. Meanwhile, a government agency called Task Force X, led by Lois's father, General Sam Lane, considers Superman a threat, and wants to stop him. They also want to recover the weapons, which had been stolen from them. The people who had stolen the weapons continue using them to commit crimes, as part of a group called Intergang. But criminals using the technology begin to be kidnapped, and forced to work for Task Force X. After Lois gets an interview with Superman, in which he says he doesn't know much about his origins, she believes he's lying. But she eventually figures out that Clark is Superman. And they eventually start dating. And it turns out Jimmy knew Clark was Superman all along, to Clark's surprise. Later, Lois meets an interdimensional group called the League of Lois Lanes, who inform her that in every universe that has a Superman, he is a conqueror, not a hero, and they believe the Superman from Lois's Earth is dangerous. We eventually learn that in the past, Earth had been attacked by an unknown alien army, led by someone Task Force X believes to be Superman, or at least they believe him to be of the same race as the aliens. They capture and interrogate Superman, which leads General Lane to doubt Superman's involvement with the aliens who had attacked them. And that leads him to be demoted, and leadership of Task Force X is passed on to Amanda Waller. Later, there's another alien invasion, which Superman stops. And Jimmy sells Flamebird to the Daily Planaet, becoming a millionaire. Meanwhile, Brainiac is revealed to viewers as the one behind the invasion, and he still intends to conquer Earth.

I hope I haven't left out anything (or anyone) too important, but I think that's most of the important stuff, so far. I really like the main trio of characters, and the animation style, and the overall story. It feels different from other incarnations of the Superman story, and I think the differences are all pretty cool. I also like Clark's evolving relationship with Lois. And I think the show is pretty funny a lot of the time, while also having good drama and action. And I guess I don't know what else to say about the season.

Season two
While season 1 premiered on Adult Swim proper, with reruns on the Toonami sub-block, I guess season 2 aired first on Toonami. It's all the same to me, since I don't get a chance to watch it on TV. But I thought I might as well mention it. Anyway, I look forward to watching and reviewing the second season.
