Night of the Slasher (11:16)

First I should say, it's really hard for me to not file this one under "comedy horror", because there's definitely some humor in it, and the whole premise of the short is somewhat comical (but also pretty dark). It seems to be a parody of Halloween, in which the killer wore a faded Captain Kirk mask. In this short, the killer wears a Spock mask. Anyway, a girl named Jenelle had her throat cut some time ago, and now she's barely able to talk. (We don't hear her speak until the very end of the film.) So now she apparently wants to get revenge against her attacker. She lures him to her house by committing four "horror movie sins", which she has on a checklist. One of those sins is "have sex", so she's invited an unpopular guy from school over for that purpose. (I'd say they both look older than they're meant to be, but a lampshade is specifically hung on the guy looking older.) Unfortunately for him, he's just bait, and when the killer shows up, he immediately stabs the guy to death. After that, Jenelle and the killer both try to kill each other. Part of the humor comes from the fact that the killer seems to be unkillable. (Kinda like Michael Myers, but really taken to an extreme in this short.) Neither he nor Jenelle are willing to give up, at least until her parents come home.

There's not much else I could say about the plot, but the whole thing is kind of ridiculous... in a good way. It's fun, it's funny, and the short pulls off a nearly impossible trick of simultaneously taking itself seriously as a slasher film, and being totally tongue-in-cheek in its presentation.
