First I should say that the creators of this short film are apparently working on a feature film and a series. (The short was made in 2014, and as of 2026, there doesn't seem to be any series or movie.) I really liked the short, but because it's an incomplete story, I don't know how to rate it. I want to see the whole story, first. (Even then, I might not bother rating this, just the movie/series.) There's also a graphic novel, but I'm not sure I care about that.
It's about an interdimensional empire called the Ascendancy, which enslaves other Earths. At the start of the film, our Earth is the next one scheduled to be conquered. An agent of the Ascendancy named Nick Morgan (voiced by John Cho) is supposed to be scouting out our military forces, but instead he retrieves a mysterious object from his world that was hidden on this world long ago. With the help of his holographic A.I., Atlas (Lance Reddick), and a very cool car type thing that has hover, flight, and underwater modes, he goes on the run from other agents, led by Major Mackenzie Cartwright (Ming-Na Wen). He travels through a few different parallel worlds to get away from them, and... that's all I can say. (I don't want to spoil what his motives are or what the device is.) But it sounds cool, huh? And it's got a great little cast.
